Hyva’s earthquake relief efforts in China
At Hyva corporate social responsibility is central to our commercial operating philosophy. Our CSR programme extends beyond responsible manufacturing practices to our strong commitment and responsibility towards the wider community.
On the afternoon of May 12, 2008, an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale jolted the Sichuan Province in Western China. The country’s worst natural disaster in more than three decades claimed thousands of lives and left an estimated 5 million people homeless.
In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake, Hyva quickly mobilised support to collect funds by initiating a fund raising campaign which saw the company and its global employees collectively raise around €22980,04 to assist with reconstruction and recovery efforts in Sichuan. This was in addition to the €10,000 contributed by Hyva’s Chinese subsidiary in Yangzhou to help with disaster relief efforts.
As new issues and concerns emerge in the future, we will remain committed to responding and contributing through our CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) programme to bring about positive changes in the communities in which we live and operate.
A donation ceremony was held in our Yangzhou operation.
Present were Kong Linjun, Executive Director, Chen Xi & Liu Zhonghua, both Vice Executive and Mr.Yang Qi, director and all working for the "People’s Government of Guangling Vice, Alex Tan, Managing Director of Hyva China and Louwrens Dijkstra CEO Hyva Group.
During the ceremony Louwrens Dijkstra, CEO of the Hyva Group spoke the following words to the assemble:
''In recent years, Hyva group has received the greatest support and care from all our Chinese friends, which has led us to develop to high-speed performance and still maintain the excellent momentum.
It was great sadness when we were informed about the Sichuan 8.0 earthquake. Hyva and Hyva employees around the world were shocked by then and over the time following when the extend of the drama unfolded. We obtained details of the earthquake from Hyva China and are caring about all the progress to reconstruct the disaster area.
Today, on behalf of Hyva Group, I can say to our Chinese friends that, in time of need, we stand ready to lend a helping hand to all the friends who suffered from the disaster. We will help them to overcome the difficulties and to rebuild their beautiful homeland.
We will be here together with you forever!''
